Franz and Catriona came over for the weekend from Scotland to photograph Yellow Wagtails in flowering bulb fields especially the blue hyacinth field had their interest.
Within the first hour of the morning we spotted a Yellow Wagtail right in the middle of a ….. blue Hyacinth field :)
They were very lucky as the flowers and the wagtails where a week later than usual but they all had taken their territory and were actively singing. So did the Skylarks and displaying Black-tailed Godwits. Other birds we found here were Northern Lapwings, Common Shelducks and boxing Hares.
The next day we visited the Nieuwkoopse Plassen for another target to photograph: Bluethroats! We waited for the rain front to pass and started a bit later. This hadn’t any effect on the birds as the usually become very active after a period of rain.
We found the Bluethroats singing in top of the reed as did many Sedge Warblers, some Savi’s Warblers and Reed Buntings. On and along the water we photographed Eurasian Curlews, Black-tailed Godwits, Ruff, Little Ringed Plover, Northern Pintail and Shoveler, Marsh Harrier and Great Crested Grebes.
As the focus was on photographing spring birds we didn’t include checklist.
