20180901 full day Amsterdam-The Hague

Full day guided birding from Amsterdam to The Hague
Guide: Rein Genuit
Date: 1st of September 2018

This morning I (Rein) meet Kypfer and his father Bill in Amsterdam by there hotel. The weather is good for birding, almost no wind and a mild temperature.

We drive to IJmuiden and have a walk on the beach. On the shoreline there are some Ringed Plovers and a Sanderling foraging. On the beach a couple of Turnstone’s and two Northern Weathear’s.

Then we walk along the lake that’s behind the dunes. Blackcaps are alarming and we also see some Stonechats, Common Whitethroats and Willow Warblers.. Above the lake there are quite a number off Barn Swallows and House Martins foraging.

There are lots of habitats in our dunes, forest is one of them. It’s mostly mixed forest, pine and leaf. In Noordwijkerhout we had a small walk through such a forest and had good views of Willow Tit, Crested Tit and Great Spotted Woodpecker. At the parking overthere we heard and saw a very nice Nuthatch.

After that we drove to the Elsgeesterpolder for species as Whinchat, Skylark and White Wagtail. Polders Poelgeest is this time of year always good for some Spoonbills and a variety of ducks.

Kypfer and his father are also interested in Bat’s. In Monster they build a bridge which is especially designed for Bat’s and they want to see that, and we are always happy to fulfill any wishes.

After “inspection” of the bridge we set off to The Hague where I say goodbye to them. We had a nice day and the cherry on the cake was, besides the bridge, a beautiful Barn Owl somewhere on our way.
