Birding Schiphol Layover

Facing a multi-hour stop-over on one of the world’s most busiest airfields? Why not kill some time birding! Join us and find out that in the area of Schiphol one can see surprysingly many good number of birds. Think about thousand of Barnacle Geese and with luck a Red-breasted Goose or Lesser White-fronted Goose in winter time or Crested Tit and Firecrest in the woodlands. A stay over in spring can let you enjoy a dawn choarus of Nightingales, Lesser Whitethroat, Common Whitethroat, Bluethroat, Willow Warblers and many more songbirds.

Just out of Schiphol in the area of Amerstdam there are some good birding sites for woodland birds, geese, gulls and terns, waders and all kind of other birds. In a short timespan it’s possible to see up to 50-75 species of birds.

3-5 hours tour

With this wider window of opportunity it’s possible to visit more (productive) and larger nature reserves what results the possibility to see more species of birds and bigger numbers. It’s possible to visit the Oostvaardersplassen to see White-tailed Eagles, Bearded Tits, Savi’s Warbler, Spoonbill and more. In this time period it should be possible to see 75-100 species of birds or to spend more time of target birding.
